🌈 Macramé Rainbow Keychain – Craft Along with Us! ✨
Hello Little Makers! 👋
This month we’re creating something bright, cheerful and perfect for showing off… your very own Macramé Rainbow Keychain!
You’ll be making two colourful rainbows using wrapping, knotting and a little bit of fluffiness magic at the end 🪄
Let’s get started!

🎁 What’s Inside Your Kit
Check you’ve got everything ready:
- 6 different coloured embroidery threads
- A packet of pom poms
- Elastic bands
- Lobster clips
- PVA glue
- 1 metre of macramé cord
You’ll also need from home:
- A measuring tape or ruler
- A sharp pair of scissors ✂️
- A clean, flat work surface
✂️ Step 1: Cut Your Large Arch (20cm)
Let’s make the biggest part of your rainbow 🌈
- Measure 20cm along your macramé cord
- Place 1 elastic band at the 20cm mark
- Add one band on each side of it
- Carefully cut between the outer bands
✨ The bands stop the cord from unravelling — clever, right?
💡 If it feels a bit tricky, ask a grown-up to help.

✂️ Step 2: Cut Your Medium Arch (17cm)
Repeat the same steps:
- Measure 17cm
- Add 1 band at the mark + 1 on each side
- Cut in the middle

✂️ Step 3: Cut Your Small Arch (13cm)
Last one!
- Measure 13cm
- Add your bands
- Cut between them
💡 Shortcut: Use your first set as a guide to cut your second set!
👉 You should now have:
- 2 × 20cm
- 2 × 17cm
- 2 × 13cm

🧵 Step 4: Wrap Your Rainbow Colours
Time to add the colour magic 🎨
- Take one arch of each size
- Pick your first colour (e.g. purple for the largest arch)
Now wrap:
- Leave 2.5cm at each end unwrapped
- Wind the thread tightly around the cord
- Keep it neat by rolling in your hand and guiding with your thumb
- Stop 2.5cm from the other end
- Tie 2–3 tight knots
- Add a dab of glue if needed
Repeat for all three arches using different colours 🌈
💡 Wrap tightly so no white cord peeks through!

🪝 Step 5: Add Your Lobster Clip
Let’s turn it into a keychain!
- Cut 10–15cm of spare thread
- Find the centre of your largest arch
- Fold the thread and loop it through the clip
- Pull through (like a lark’s head knot)
- Wrap the ends around the arch
- Turn over and tie 2–3 tight knots underneath
- Trim any extra

🌈 Step 6: Join Your Arches
No sewing needed — yay! 🙌
- Use an elastic band to secure all arches on the right side of the clip
- Repeat on the left side
- Add more bands along the ends
- Wrap from largest → smallest, then back again for extra hold
💡 If anything moves, just gently nudge it back into place.

🪮 Step 7: Make It Fluffy
Time for the soft, fluffy ends!
- Take a comb
- Gently brush out the cord ends
- Wiggle slightly to separate the fibres
✨ They’ll turn into soft tassels!

🎀 Step 8: Add Pom Poms
Let’s make it extra fun 🎉
- Add a good amount of glue where the thread meets the ends
- Press 4 pom poms onto each side
- Add extra glue if needed
💡 Don’t worry — it dries clear!

✂️ Step 9: Trim the Ends
Once everything is dry:
- Carefully trim the tassels
- Make them neat and even

🌈 You’re Done! 🎉
Your Macramé Rainbow Keychain is ready to shine ✨
Clip it onto:
- Your school bag 🎒
- Your pencil case ✏️
- A grown-up’s keys 🔑
- Or gift it to someone special 💛
