Cyanotype Craft Kit

Have you come across cyanotype printing before?

If not, you’re in for a treat - this is one of my favourite creative processes.

Cyanotype is an early form of photography, where paper or fabric is made light sensitive using iron-based salts. Objects are placed on top of the paper, which is exposed using sunlight or UV light, then when washed out, you’re left with this rich indigo blue print showing beautiful silhouettes.

They’re easy to make from home, no need for a dark room or any specialist equipment, and this month’s kit brings all you need together in one box! No need to be a scientist either (although you will be for an afternoon, but shhhh) - all the materials are pre-measured, so you can focus on creating.

So, with materials including these...

This is what we're making...

The kit contains all you need to make these 5 greetings cards, or could easily be adapted to dye your own papers or fabrics (use non-synthetic fabrics, like 100% cotton or silk).

This is a perfect craft for the Summer months (hello sunshine!) - and how I began teaching workshops.

You don’t need your own garden either, the sunlight part can easily be done in your local park or even a square of concrete.

I’ll be sharing more about the history of cyanotypes and the artists working with the process today later this week, but if you’ve any questions, let me know!
