In this project you’ll be working with air dry clay to create the perfect vessel to pop your pens, paint brushes or small plants into. We’ve chosen a terracotta colour clay for this kit as we love its warmth (and we’re imagining the sunny climes of a Tuscan hillside!)
Working with clay always chills us out - it’s very tactile and grounding, and it has a rich history...
Sculptors were using terracotta clay as far back as 24,000 BC, and one of its most famous forms is China’s Terracotta Army, created in 210–209 BCE, of over 8,000 soldiers and 520 horses. These figures were buried with the first Emperor of China and were thought to protect him in his afterlife.
Back in the modern day, your kit has everything you’ll need to create your very own Terracotta Pot. Your box includes:
- Terracotta-colour air dry clay
- Rolling pin
- Cutting tool
- White Paint
- Brush
- Sandpaper
- PVA glue
As ever, you’ll also have step-by-step photo instructions and a video tutorial online to make it easy to follow along.
You’ll form your pot, adding little feet and scoring in your texture to the top half.
Once it's dry, you'll sand to a smooth finish, and complete with a white painted interior and a speckled white paint and PVA glaze on the outside.
Are you ready to get potting?
P.S. If you’re using your pot for plants, make sure to pop a watertight liner in first, as your pot won’t be waterproof!
