5 reasons crafting is officially good for you

In case you didn't already know all the reasons why crafting is good for you (there's loads!), we've rounded up our top 5, so you've got even more of an excuse to while away the hours on your favourite project...

It encourages your creativity

In the busy-ness of day to day life, we often forget to unwind and spend time doing things we love. So sitting down to craft is a great way to explore your creativity and make something wonderful!

Once you’ve created whatever it is you’re making, whether it’s a macrame plant hanger, a sweet baby’s blanket or a handy new stationery pot, you’ll be so pleased with your efforts and totally proud of yourself - a project well worth accomplishing.

It's great for your mental health

You know that wonderful state of ‘flow’, where you’re in total concentration with the project at hand and the rest of the world falls away - that’s the medicine that crafting brings to us!

Our lives are constantly full of tasks and notifications, so it’s increasingly important to look after our busy minds.

Projects such as Yarnfulness are showing how spending time making and creating - going into that state of ‘flow’ - can have great benefits for our mental health. Having a fun project to focus on gives our brains the R&R they deserve.

The fantastic mental health charity, Mind, even have a Crafternoon project that you can get involved with here, to raise money for their cause!

It introduces you to new hobbies

Learning new things is one of life’s greatest gifts. Sometimes we can get stuck in a rut of doing the same old things and feel like we need something to spice life up a little. Trying a new craft (or crafting at all!) can be just the remedy for bringing something fresh and exciting into your life and learning new skills.

Studies even suggest that creative activities - including crafting - stimulate our minds and keeps our neurons firing, reducing our risk of dementia.

It gives us time away from the screens

We’re all guilty of it, but so much of our time is consumed by tapping away on computers or scrolling through our phones, so it’s really important that we make sure we get some screen-free time.

Spending half an hour a day (or more!) focusing on something off-screen is a great way to unwind and switch off from the digital world - and we bet you’ll feel better for it!

It brings people together

Last but by no means least, crafting brings people together!

Whether you craft solo or with others, you can be assured that you’re part of a wider (and completely wonderful) crafting community who are making this world a more bright and beautiful place, one craft project at a time!
