As we welcome a fresh new year, there’s something wonderfully comforting about settling into a project inspired by home—the place where we kick off our shoes, pop the kettle on, and breathe out after a long day. This month, we’ve created a make that feels both grounding and uplifting, with soft curves, layered silhouettes and a gentle nod to those sunset evenings when the lights flick on along a quiet street.
January’s kit brings you The Sunset Home Key Hook—a charming layered piece that blends creativity and practicality, giving you a delightful place to hang your keys while adding a homely touch to your wall.
This is a project made for slow moments, gentle creativity, and that satisfying feeling of bringing something useful to life with your own hands.

What You’ll Be Making – and How
This month’s project takes you through a lovely mix of cutting, layering, painting and assembling—ideal for easing yourself back into crafting after the festive season.
Here’s a little look at the creative journey you’ll follow:
1. Shape Your Scene
You’ll start by transferring the house templates onto your cork sheets and MDF base. The templates help create the layered “street at sunset” effect—think little rooftops, windows, chimneys and crisp outlines. Cutting each shape out and building your arrangement feels a bit like piecing together your own miniature town.
2. Add Colour and Character
Next comes the painting stage, where you can really play. With 24 paint colours to hand, you can create warm sunset tones, nighttime silhouettes, soft neutrals, or bold brights—whatever feels homely to you.
You’ll learn how to build up colour in layers, add definition where needed, and use dry brushing to create subtle textures. It’s a wonderfully mindful step, letting the houses slowly come to life.
3. Build Your Layers
Once your painted pieces are dry, you’ll start assembling them on the MDF plaque. The mix of flat painted areas and cushioned cork shapes creates lovely depth and tactility. You’ll decide which elements sit in front, which tuck behind, and how your little street will flow from one house to the next.
4. Add Function with a Flourish
To finish, you’ll screw in your trio of gold hooks—just the right size for keys—and attach the wall hangers to the back. This transforms your artwork into a piece you’ll reach for every day, blending handmade charm with proper usefulness.
