Create your very own everlasting beaded plant! This month's Little Makers kit is a relaxing craft that lets you build a colourful plant using wire, beads and flowers. Once it's finished, you'll have a beautiful decoration that's perfect for displaying on a shelf, desk or windowsill.
Take your time with this project – it's a little more fiddly than some of our previous kits, but the finished result is well worth it!
What's in your kit?
- White plastic plant pot
- Polystyrene ball
- Green moss
- Long green-coated wire
- Short green-coated wire
- Red flower beads
- Green leaf beads
- Small green beads
You'll also need
- A small piece of tissue or toilet paper
- A pen or pencil (optional, to help open the wire loops)
- An adult to help if you find bending the wire tricky

Step 1: Prepare your plant pot
Take the polystyrene ball and place it inside the white plant pot. You'll notice it's a little loose, so wrap a small piece of tissue or toilet paper around the ball until it fits snugly inside the pot.
The ball should sit securely without sticking out above the rim.
Now gently spread the green moss over the top to hide the polystyrene ball and create the look of real soil.
Step 2: Make your first hanging flower
Take one of the long pieces of wire and thread a red flower bead onto it.
Next, thread approximately 27–29 small green beads onto the wire.
Leave about 1–1½ cm of wire free at the end. This will be pushed into the polystyrene ball to hold your stem in place.
Step 3: Add your first stem
Hold the beads tightly so they don't slide off, then carefully press the end of the wire into the polystyrene ball.
Once it's secure, gently bend the wire into a graceful arch so the flower hangs down like a trailing plant.
The wire is easy to shape by hand, but ask an adult for help if you need it.
Step 4: Make the rest of the hanging flowers
Repeat the same process until you've made six hanging flower stems.
Try bending each one slightly differently so your finished plant looks natural and full.
Step 5: Create the long leafy stems
Now it's time to add the leaves.
Each leaf has a small loop. If it's a little tight, carefully open it slightly with your fingers or use a pen or pencil to help.
Attach a leaf to the end of one of the long wires and gently close the loop again.
Thread around 28 small green beads onto the wire, leaving enough space at the end to push the wire into the polystyrene ball.
Make ten long leafy stems altogether.
Step 6: Arrange the long leaves
Press each leafy stem into the polystyrene ball around your flowers.
Place some stems higher and some lower, then gently bend them into different shapes to give your beaded plant a full, realistic look.
Step 7: Make the small flower stems
Using the shorter pieces of wire, thread on one red flower.
If you'd like, you can also add one green leaf—it's completely up to you.
Next, thread 8–9 small green beads onto the wire, leaving enough wire at the end to push into the polystyrene ball.
Make four short flower stems.
Step 8: Make the small leafy stems
Using the remaining short wires, attach a leaf to each one in the same way as before.
Thread on 8–9 green beads, then create four short leafy stems.
Step 9: Finish your beaded plant
Push all of the short stems into the centre of your plant.
Mix the flowers and leaves together to fill any gaps, then gently bend the stems until you're happy with the overall shape.
Every plant will look a little different, so have fun arranging yours!
