Kirstie Allsopp's Handmade Fair & Mollie Makes Mash Up

Isn't this pretty?! They know how to choose a venue for Kirstie Allsopp's The Handmade Fair, which took place this weekend in the grounds of Ragley Hall in Warwickshire. This was my first time teaching at the fair, and it was a lovely experience. Each morning, I'd walk from the hotel along the loooooong drive up to the Hall past green fields, lots of sheep, a cricket ground (that kept the husband happy) and into the fair. A couple of days before, I was asked if I'd take part in the Mollie Makes Mash Up; two established crafters, 30 minutes, and - for this mash up - a jute basket to upcycle with a bag of crafty goodies to help. It was a hoot! I was up against the lovely Louisa from The Fibre Lounge; she crocheted the top of her jute basket, and I went for colourful felt flowers on mine - and it was an honourable draw! The Acting Editor of Mollie Makes, Yvette, hosted the event and asked us lots of questions about our businesses, backgrounds and love of crafting. On all three days, I taught two workshops; how to make a blossoming Paper Flower in 30 minutes in the Grand Makes theatre (the big tent below) and how to make a handbound kraft cover notebook in the Skills Theatre. I completely forgot to take photos during the sessions - all focus on teaching! - but got this snap of the kind security guards who'd been looking after us wearing a couple of the paper flowers in their lapels - very swish! The good news is that I'll be back at The Handmade Fair at Hampton Court in London from the 14-16 September 2018, so if you missed out on this one, come and join us in London! I'll be teaching a slightly different version of the handbook notebook workshop. A big thank you to all the lovely folk who came to the workshops and said hello over the weekend - it was great to meet you! We've been chatting about what you'd make in a mash-up with the same materials in our Creative Adventure Tribe group. What would you have done? Come & join the conversation here (you'll need to join the group if you haven't already, but it's free!)

Our next kit is Felt Christmas Baubles! These are a lot of fun to create, cutting out the felt pieces, adding embroidery, making them into little baubles, then adding shiny golden and silvery beads to glitter and sparkle in the light. Full templates and ideas for the patterns are included in the kit, or you can go to town personalising them with your own designs. Learn more...

December's kit will be shipped by Friday 14 December.
