Craft Kit Reveal – Sashiko
It’s time to reveal our April kit… we’re going to be learning the Japanese folk embroidery art of Sashiko!
This traditional textile process translates as ‘little stabs’ and was used by farmers and fisherman as a form of darning, or quilting stitch to build up warmth in winter clothing.
The gorgeous linear and geometric stitching feels really contemporary and we’re seeing it more and more with a modern approach.
A little different to Western embroidery, the needle is much longer and loaded with multiple stitches to get these structured geometric lines.
The kit includes enough fabric to make two placements, or tweak it your own way and make a bag, book cover or small cushion cover.
We normally source our materials in the UK, but for this one, we’re importing the authentic sashiko embroidery thread, long needles and open weave indigo fabric from Japan.
We’ve limited numbers for this kit, so if you’d like to try sashiko, come and join us!
