This project is all about stretching your imagination and enjoying getting playful and creative!

We're taking inspiration from beautiful flocks of birds, who we often see at this time of year, in stunning formations as they swoop through the air! We just love the intricate, coordinated patterns they create as they twist, turn and swirl across the sky. 

You'll have great fun getting hands-on as you explore creating different textures with paints and using a variety of tools and specially selected materials to create your own 'flock of swifts' artwork.

First you'll paint your wooden board to create your beautiful blue sky or sunset  background. Then you'll use your swifts silhouette template and card and create your birds. 

Then, it's time to get really creative and with a choice of 8 acrylic paints (plus white!) you can carefully select the colours and shades that you'd like to add to your birds. We used colours that would mimic the sky at sunset – oranges, yellows, pinks, and purples. 

We're including a paint brush and a foam square so you can explore printing a variety of textures to add interesting and unique elements to your design. We're also including a sheet of gold leaf so you can add some elements of decadence to your design.

The combination of colours and textures add real visual interest and allow you to create a truly unique piece of art.  

Once your birds are dry, you'll then attach them to your painted wooden background using the mini grip pads. Add one or add more to create an element of depth, and to give a dynamic quality to your piece. 

Carefully place your swifts of various sizes onto your sky, with the larger birds in the foreground, to create an element of perspective. Finally, you can attach the self adhesive picture hanger to the back. 

Voila! You've created a stunning piece of art for your home that you can treasure for years to come. Perfect to hang on your wall at home or display on a mantlepiece.
